Mission Statement
To empower educators with the right tools and information to develop online learning experiences that are inclusive, engaging, and effective.
What you will learn
Students will develop competencies in online teaching and learning through evidence-based practices, current educational technology adoption and development, course facilitation techniques using a learning management system (LMS), and student-centered design as informed by principles of Universal Design for Learning, the California Virtual Campus – Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI) Rubric, and the Peralta Community College District Online Equity Rubric.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Create an online or hybrid course that adheres to distance education and course design best practices within the California Community College system.
- Develop and/or integrate educational technologies into online and hybrid courses.
- Demonstrate understanding and application of equity-based course design in support of students at the community college.
Certificate of Achievement in Online Teaching and Course Design
A Certificate of Achievement in Online Teaching and Course Design will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of four required courses and one of four electives for a total of 14-15 units.

Recommended sequence
Although students can enroll in these courses in any order they choose, we recommend that students begin the program with EDT 1 and EDT 2 which provide a foundation for success in subsequent courses.
