The Beta Theta Lambda Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at Merritt College was charted in April 1999, 26 years ago! Since that time more than 1,062 students (including advisors, administrators and staff) have accepted membership into this prestigious organization. Phi Theta Kappa’s hallmarks are Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship. Its mission is to recognize students for their outstanding academic achievements and to provide opportunities for service and leadership in their communities and around the globe. Students who accept the invitation to membership receive access to scholarships and other benefits not open to other students in the two-year colleges. At its core, “PTK gives members opportunities to grow as scholars and leaders, to develop professional and leadership skills, earn scholarships, explore career paths, and make their worlds a lot bigger” (PTK HQ). A permanent notation of membership is printed on each student’s college transcript. This notation is recognized by institutions of higher learning throughout the world. The Beta Theta Lambda Chapter at Merritt College is a Five Star Chapter 2024 and 2023 and in the Top 100 Chapters for 2023 internationally, the Nevada California Region is a Five Star Region, and the Nevada California Regional Alumni Association is a Five Star Alumni Association and the Most Distinguished Alumni Association internationally for 2023!
