Lots of Art Activities: Workshop With Renowned Artist 5/7; “Art Stories” Hallway Exhibit, “Show of Merritt”
There are lots of great art activities going on and coming up for the entire community to enjoy and learn from. As part of its new Professional Development Series, the Merritt Art Student Association (MASA) is presenting a free workshop by renowned local artist, naturalist, and teacher John Muir Laws, author of ‘The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling” on Monday, May 7, from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m., A-122. Both art students and friends are invited to bring their sketchbooks and join this exciting class of exploration on how to cross the chasm from student to professional artist as well as a mini-workshop on what the artist does best–watercolor and drawing nature. There will be time for questions and answers at the end. The entire Merritt community is welcome to attend and learn something about art from a well-known expert.
Also check out these art exhibits: the newly hung, creative “Art Stories: Why We Do Art in One Word,” which takes advantage of the space in the “A” Bldg. Hallway to display student works. The show will remain up through August 21. Also, the annual “Show of Merritt,” with works in all media from our talented art students will continue to be displayed Mondays and Wednesdays, in S-352, until May 12.
The Merritt Art Department offers an excellent mix of classes from botanical art to ceramics to a variety of painting and drawing classes. To find out more, go to www.merritt.edu/art.
