Genomics Advisory Board Description:

Science is innovative and ever changing. That is part of its power and beauty. Right now, biomedical scientists, clinical lab and medical personnel are at the forefront of the response to the global Covid-19 pandemic.

In the Merritt Bioscience Department our fundamental goal is to prepare students for fulfilling, well-paid, in demand careers in science. This means adaptability in what we teach in critical in developing optimal career opportunities for the students we serve. Towards this goal,  we are adapting our curriculum to address this new employment landscape.

We need your help to:

The focus will be the science and health policies behind the current pandemic as a unifying theme. Science relevant to the issues and solutions of this pandemic.

Students will:

Be a source of information for their community.

Be prepared for the increase of job opportunities: diagnostics, vaccine and drug development, pandemic response, public health policy, etc.

Learn the science in this theme and to online education.

Online labs practice your hands-on skills.

There is a need for diversity in STEM fields and a need for solutions to climate change. We will recruit students by providing them with exciting hands-on science experiences, which will increase their confidence, motivation, and inspiration. Many of the lab activities will involve climate change, including citizen science collection of data important to assessing the impact of climate change in economically disadvantaged communities.
