SPRING 2020 STUDENT ELECTIONS

The Associated Students of Merritt College (ASMC) is searching for students who are interested in contributing to the campus community and developing their leadership skills.

REQUIREMENTS
All students are required to have:
- A minimum of 2.0 cumulative GPA
- Be enrolled in a minimum of five (5) semester units at Merritt College
- Be in good standing with the College and District. (Students on academic, progress and/or disciplinary probation CANNOT serve on ASMC.
NOTE: Students that have served on ASMC for three (3) terms and/or complete a total of six (6) semesters on the Senate are ineligible to serve another term. How to become an ASMC Senator:

- Shall be the official representative of and to the Student Body of Merritt College.
- Shall uphold and maintain the ASMC constitution.
- Shall have the power to call special meetings of the ASMC Senate, per the Brown Act.
- Shall have the power to fill by appointment with, Senate approval, vacancies that may occur in the Executive branch for the remainder of office term.
- Shall chair all ASMC meetings.
- Shall serve as the liaison between the college administration, faculty, and students, and plan and present annual goals to the ASMC Council.
- Shall cast the deciding vote in the case of a tie or where his/her vote will affect the results of a two-thirds (2/3) vote.
- Shall have the power of veto.
- Shall attend and present at Peralta District Board meetings or send a representative in his/her place.
- Shall maintain three (5) office hours per week.
- Shall keep in contact with the other Associated Student Governments in the Peralta District.
- Shall have the power to assign council members to committees.
- Shall serve on at least (1) Shared governance committee and (1) ASMC standing committee.
Vice-President:
- Uphold and maintain the ASMC constitution.
- Shall preside over all duties of the President whenever the President is unable to serve.
- Shall oversee all Senator positions and report directly to the ASMC president.
- Shall serve on at least two (2) Shared governance committees and (2) ASMC standing committee per school year.
- Shall perform various duties during all ASMC meetings including keeping speakers to their time limit to speak and keeping order during the meeting.
- Shall maintain four (4) office hours per week.
- Shall report directly to the President of the ASMC.
Secretary:
- Shall be responsible for recording, correspondence, publishing, and posting minutes of the Council meetings within 72 hours after such meetings.
- Shall be responsible for keeping records of all correspondents.
- Shall prepare the agenda for each Council meeting which must be posted no later than 72 hours before a Council meeting.
- Shall perform any other functions as deemed necessary by the President of the ASMC or majority vote of the ASMC.
- Shall create and keep updated contact sheet of all current ASMC Council members.
- Shall maintain three (3) office hours per week.
- Shall serve on at least two (2) committees per school year (1 shared governance, 1 ASMC).
- Shall report directly to the President of the ASMC.
Treasurer:
- Shall prepare the ASMC budget for the following year.
- Shall administer the current ASMC budget for the following year.
- Shall keep a current record of the financial state and maintain the accounts of the ASMC.
- Shall uphold and maintain the financial code.
- Shall prepare and present monthly budget reports to the ASMC Council.
- Shall perform any other functions as deemed necessary by the President of the ASMC or a majority vote of the ASMC.
- Shall serve on at least (1) Shared governance and (1) ASMC standing committee.
- Shall maintain three (3) office hours per week.
- Shall report directly to the President of the ASMC.
Inter Club Council Chair:
- Shall coordinate between the ASMC Council and the ICC Council on all activities.
- Shall ensure that all Inter-Club Council policies are followed.
- Shall give report on all club activities at each ASMC meeting.
- Shall attend or send a delegate to at attend at least one (1) meeting of every chartered club per semester.
- Shall oversee all ICC meetings and events.
- Shall perform any other functions as deemed necessary by the President of the ASMC or a majority vote of the ASMC.
- Shall maintain three (3) office hours per week.
- Shall serve on at least (1) Shared governance and (1) ASMC standing committee.
- Shall report directly to the President of the ASMC.
Senators:
- All Senators of the ASMC council must hold two (2) office hours per week, making themselves available to students, faculty, and staff.
- Office hours shall be negotiated with the Secretary and the Vice President of the ASMC.
- To serve on at least two (2) committees per semester year (1 Shared Governance, 1 ASMC).
- Shall perform any other functions as deemed necessary by the President of the ASMC and a majority vote of the ASMC.
