EBCLC Legal Service Appointments
Immigrant students (including students with dual enrollment, in non-credit programs, and adult learners), faculty, and staff at California Community Colleges can get free immigration legal services through the Higher Education Legal Services Project, a statewide effort to connect students with trusted immigrant legal services providers statewide.
In partnership with Merritt College, the East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC) offers free immigration services to Merritt College students. Schedule an appointment with an immigration attorney or legal advocate to discuss your immigration status and options.

Know Your Rights: Immigrant Protections in the U.S.
Due to ongoing immigration enforcement concerns, it is essential to stay informed. Everyone in the U.S. has certain rights, regardless of immigration status. If approached by Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), you can protect yourself. We encourage students and community members to stay informed, seek support, and know their rights. Red cards are available to all of our campus community. Please note: This information is for educational purposes only and should not be considered legal advice.
Know Your Rights if you have an encounter with ICE:
- You have the right to remain silent.
- You have the right to refuse consent to a search of yourself, your home, or your car.
- You have the right to a lawyer if arrested.
- If you are not under arrest, you have the right to walk away or leave in a calm manner.
