Ramiro Rodriguez is embarking on his eighteenth season with Cal North and USSF Coaching Education, serving as a State Olympic Development coach and a State Coaching Instructor respectively.

A seasoned professional in soccer coaching, Rodriguez proudly represented his country, Peru, at the inaugural Youth World Cup in Argentina in 1981. He honed his skills under the Peruvian National Development Youth program, CEDENA, until his relocation to the United States in 1987. Upon his arrival, he pursued his passion for soccer while attending Napa College in 1989, where he also dedicated time to mastering the English language through ESL classes. However, an injury cut short his playing career, prompting him to transition into coaching in 1993.

Rodriguez’s love for coaching led him to pursue extensive licensing to solidify his professional standing. He achieved his USSF “A” license in 1998, followed by obtaining his NSCAA Premier License in 2003 and later his USYSA Youth National License.

Expanding his horizons, Rodriguez ventured to South America to further enrich his coaching expertise. In Brazil, he completed his CBF “B” license in Rio de Janeiro in 2001, and in his native Peru, he earned his “Director Tecnico” license from the Peruvian Football Federation FPF in 2002.

Since 2001, Rodriguez has been an integral part of the State ODP Olympic Development Program, contributing to both the boys’ and girls’ sides. His leadership as the head coach of various categories, including the 90’s, 94’s, 03’s, and 05’s, has resulted in notable achievements, with the teams clinching Regional Championships in 2009, 2010, 2016, and 2019.

At the club level, Coach Rodriguez has dedicated over two decades to youth soccer, lending his expertise to numerous Northern California clubs, including Diablo Valley Soccer Club (DVSC), Bay Oaks, Castro Valley Soccer Club, Pleasanton Rage, South Alameda County (SAC), West Contra Costa (WCC), Livermore, Tri Valley Soccer Club, and most recently, Ballistic Unites Soccer Club from Pleasanton.

On the collegiate front, Rodriguez played a pivotal role in shaping the Men’s soccer programs at Las Positas College from 2006 to 2016, contributing to their two conference titles. Subsequently, he joined Merritt College from 2016 to 2018, where he helped establish the foundation of the school’s soccer program.

Beyond the field, Rodriguez has been an educator at the Oakland Unified School District for the past decade, spearheading standard-based physical education programs that promote health and physical education among underprivileged and at-risk young students. He firmly believes that sports offer students and athletes a second chance to nurture their academic potential.

Rodriguez’s academic pursuits culminated in his graduation from California State University East Bay in 2014, where he earned his Master of Science in Kinesiology and Sport Science along with his Single Subject Teaching.
