A brighter future is in your hands. We’re currently seeking a Native Habitat Gardener. Native Habitat Gardeners are motivated Sustainability Specialists that work on organically maintained client’s campus. We are looking for somebody who enjoys all aspects of organic horticulture, native landscapes strategically hands on in a gardening position.

Ideal candidate will have experience in CA native gardening, regional ecologies and sustainable gardening practices. Effective communication with clients and team members is required.

What you’ll do:

Native Habitat Gardeners are also responsible for garden maintenance of native and landscapes to perform the following duties:
•Use of all electric maintenance equipment
•Natural pruning, habitat management and invasive species control
•Light repair of irrigation systems
•Monitoring wildlife, pest and diseases
•Interacting with the public in the gardens

Additionally, it is expected that all employees comply with all internal control and compliance practices:
•Protect company property from theft or misuse
•Ensure separation of duties to reduce fraud
•Meet the work ethic, regulations and laws
•Maintain confidentiality of proprietary company information

Skills we’re seeking:
•Experience and knowledge with care and needs of native plants
•Candidate must be well organized
•Some plant pathology and entomology knowledge, including beneficial organisms
•Ability to talk about plants to general public
•Using hand tools, such as pruning shears
•Load and operate a blower 10 pounds for long periods of time
•Using a hand rake for long periods of time
•Operation of a motor vehicle, must have CA Driver’s license
•Operating machinery on public roads
•Associates degree or higher in Horticulture related field and/or Bay Friendly Certified Professional
•Work experience with organic gardening methods and native gardens
•California native plant knowledge
•Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
•Work eight hours or more per day, with breaks necessary, for 5 days a week (it may require working overtime & on the weekends)
•Ability to work under direct sunlight for long periods of time
•Ability to carry 40 pounds (bags of fertilizer, mulch, etc.)
•Ability to load / unload a trailer full of burlaps up to 50 pounds
•Ability to bend, stoop and twist throughout the day
•Strong oral and written communication skills; able to translate documents.
•Strong work ethic

9 Acre rooftop garden with a focus on California native plants, natural pruning, and organic landscaping

Experience Required:
Worked with California native plants in a landscape setting (1+ years)
Understands the fundamentals of natural pruning and structural pruning

Experience Preferred:
Knowledge of drip irrigation operation
Knowledge of proper application of organic fertilizers, compost, mulch
