Job Description
Counterpoint Press, an author-driven publishing house devoted to fresh, cutting-edge, and new literary voices, is seeking two interns to provide support to our teams in our Berkeley office. We’re looking for two part-time interns to work 20 hours a week.
Duties for each intern will vary widely day-to-day, but we rely on our interns for time-sensitive, essential work. We have hired three previous interns to in-house staff positions and proudly strive to help all of our exemplary interns with their job searches upon completing the internship with us.
Typical duties for both interns will include packing and mailing books and other promotional materials, researching and gathering media lists, writing galley letters and pitches, composing press releases, copy editing, and various administrative tasks across the company’s publicity and marketing departments. They will also occasionally assist our editorial departments. Interns will work closely with a variety of talented, motivated, and creative people to gain hands-on experience at one of the largest independent publishers today.
The ideal candidate will be exceptionally detail-oriented, organized, open to constructive feedback, efficient, a clear communicator, interested in learning the business of publishing, self-managed, able to work well in a fast-paced environment, passionate about the literary world, knowledgeable about media outlets (diverse and niche interest knowledge is a plus), and comfortable learning new software and systems. Interns must be familiar with Google Drive, and InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere experience is a major plus.
Generally our summer internships last 3-4 months, and can begin as early as May 2018 and go as late as September 2018. People of color, LGBTQIA people, and disabled people are especially encouraged to apply.
Please email a PDF of your cover letter and resume to info@counterpointpress.com by April 25th, 2018, with SUMMER 2018 INTERNSHIP in the subject line. In the body of your email, include firm start and end dates of availability, as well as all scheduling and accessibility requirements.
