Job Description
THE POSITION
Contra Costa County is recruiting qualified Computer Operator II candidates to fill three (3) positions (day, graveyard and swing shifts) in the Health Services Information Technology Department located in Martinez, California. Incumbents will receive occasional instruction and have responsibility for operating various data processing devices, monitoring interfaces between systems, SQL jobs, disk space, Epic environments, registration errors, temperature, power, hardware, production environment uptime, all production jobs and maintain databases, job scheduling, batch files, and backups.
The ideal candidates will have a proven track record demonstrating the following:
•Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office and knowledge of the UNIX operating system
•Providing technical and operations support to system users regarding hardware and software application problems
•Documenting trouble tickets, and communicating with vendors and other Operators at the end of their shift
•Collecting batch jobs for daily processing, documenting all completed jobs, conducting system and database back-ups, and maintaining the tape library
Characteristics of the ideal candidate:
•Excellent communication skills to explain problems to others, notice errors, and quickly remediate or escalate when necessary
•Ability to follow very detailed instructions that are constantly changing, and document findings
•Ability to provide high level customer service

TENTATIVE EXAM DATES
Tentative Training and Experience Exam: April 13, 2018
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a high school diploma, GED equivalency or high school proficiency certificate and 12 college semester units or 15 quarter units in computer operations, information processing or other computer science related field or equivalent computer vocational training.
Experience: Six (6) months of full-time, or its equivalent, experience as a Computer Operator I in Contra Costa County; or six months of full-time experience as a computer operator on a medium to large scale computer system.
Substitution for Education: Six (6) months of additional computer operations experience can be substituted for the required computer operations, information processing or other computer science education.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Prior to employment, a background investigation/fingerprint exam will be conducted on all candidates.
SELECTION PROCESS

2. Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.
3. Training and Experience Evaluation: The examination will consist of an evaluation of each candidate’s relevant education, training and/or experience as presented on the application and supplemental questionnaire. (Weighted 100%)
4. Candidates must receive a score of at least 70, which may be an adjusted score, in order to be ranked on the employment list.
The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
