Job Description

Contra Costa County’s Animal Services Department is looking to add an Animal Services Volunteer Coordinator to our dedicated team. This position is responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the Volunteer Program in the Animal Services Department and for conducting various outreach activities with community organizations.
The ideal candidate will have animal welfare experience in a successful volunteer program, with the proven ability to increase volunteer recruitment and improve on retention. Highly desired characteristics include:

TENTATIVE EXAM DATES
Tentative Oral Exam: October 24, 2017
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, sociology, volunteer administration, animal welfare or veterinary administration, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time or its equivalent experience coordinating and/or supervising a volunteer services program in a public animal control and services setting or one (1) year full-time or its equivalent experience in a management position in a public animal control and services setting.
Substitution for Education: Additional qualifying experience of any of the types listed below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis up to maximum of four years. One additional year of qualifying or substitution experience may also be substituted for the required academic major, including:
• Experience working in an public animal control and services setting
• Experience working with animals in a humane, zoological, shelter, conservancy, veterinary or other non-laboratory setting
• Experience training animals in a non-laboratory setting
• Management experience in a public or private organization
SELECTION PROCESS

2. Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.
3. Oral Interview: Conducted by a Qualifications Appraisal Board who will evaluate candidates in job-related areas.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices. As part of the application process, an applicant may be required to complete a Conviction History form. The Conviction History form should only be submitted when requested.
