ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Emeryville Child Development Center (ECDC) has been offering quality child care since 1979 for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers (ages four months to five years of age). We offer a play-based program. Age-appropriate activities are provided which encourage cognitive, motor, and language development across the six classrooms and emphasize positive self-image, cultural pride, and social and emotional development. The center also provides family support through parenting workshops, support groups, and partnerships with multiple services providers.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Under the supervision of a lead Teacher, the Teacher Assistant is a paraprofessional position that performs duties that are instructional in nature and serves in a position for which a teacher has ultimate responsibility for the design and delivery of educational programs or services to children in the Child Development Program.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE IS:
• Knowledgeable of principles and practices of child development for licensed center-based child care;
• Knowledgeable of the principles and processes for providing customer and personal services;
• Able to effectively deal with a variety of age groups from infancy to pre-school age, as well as adults;
• Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing and be computer literate.
• Able to implement current child development practices in accordance with State Department of Education and Community Care Licensing guidelines;
• Able to help prepare lesson plans and daily activity schedules that facilitate and stimulate child learning;
• Proficient in reading literacy skills;
• Physically capable of monitoring and participating in children’s games and activities;

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Must possess or successfully complete a minimum of six (6) units in Early Childhood Education within one year of employment (3 units must be in infant/toddler development) from a recognized program. Failure to complete the units successfully by the end of the probationary period will result in release from probationary status. Must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate and experience working in the field of child development for infants, toddlers, pre- school children, or school-age children. All necessary and required documentation must be current as required by the Department of Education, Community Care Licensing, and the City of Emeryville.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The MESA provides a competitive compensation and benefits package. Salary range is $2,655 to $3,228 monthly and the benefits include:
• Retirement: New Members CalPERS 2%@62 retirement plan (based on highest three consecutive years) or Classic Members 2%@60 (based on highest three consecutive years). Under both plans the employee picks up the full 7% employee contribution. The agency does not participate in Social Security.
• Vacation: Employee accrues ten (10) working days per year. Maximum accrual of 2x annual accrual rate.
• Holidays: Fourteen (14) paid holidays per year (inclusive of three (3) floating holidays).
• Sick Leave: Fifteen (15) days per year, with unlimited accumulation.
• Health & Welfare: Medical, dental, and vision care coverages paid by the agency (to a capped amount) for the employee and eligible dependents.
• Misc. Benefits: City provides life/AD&D, long-term disability (LTD), and employee assistance program benefits.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD/REPRESENTATION BENEFITS
The probationary period for new employees is twelve (12) months, which may be extended by an additional three (3) months. This position is represented by SEIU Local 1021.
