District Office Internship Opportunities

State Senator Nancy Skinner was elected in 2016 to represent the East Bay cities along the I-80 corridor from Rodeo to San Leandro. Senator Skinner previously served in the State Assembly from 2008-2014 where she successfully passed many progressive laws to prevent gun violence, restore justice to the criminal justice system, reduce income inequality, fund early childhood education and advance renewable, clean energy. Now in the State Senate, Skinner serves as the Majority Whip and Chair of the Public Safety Committee and the Budget Sub-Committee on Public Safety and Corrections. Senator Skinner is committed to training, mentoring and exposing young leaders to government and public service and offers interested high school and college students a hands-on and engaging internship opportunity. She seeks individuals with strong organizational skills, commitment, and a passion to learn.

In the District office, intern duties may include:
• Answering constituent phone calls and requests, and following up accordingly;
• Reviewing constituent emails and correspondence, and drafting constituent letters;
• Conducting research on current and future legislation;
• Attending community events, Select Committee hearings, and various meetings;
• Shadowing Senator Skinner at events, briefings, and internal meetings; and
• Monitoring news sources and conducting research for media projects.
