Merritt Shows Appreciation for Its Vets with Campus Walk and Lunch

.vets-photoShowing pride for their service for Veterans Day and for the college’s appreciation of them, Merritt’s own veterans, supporters, and friends walked  around the campus on Nov. 9 ending with a free hot dog lunch. Here is a summary of the successful event from  Student Veterans Association President David Polse:

“The event went very well! We had about 20 participants for the walk from the community, students and veterans. I was happy to educate everyone about the student veterans association and our goals of establishing a veterans resource center and unifying the Merritt student vets. I handed out all but 15 buttons and at the end of the day served 80 veterans, students, staff, and community members with Mohamed’s amazing hot dog lunch! The remaining hot dogs he said he would take to an area he frequents with extra food and hand them out to the homeless on behalf of the Merritt Student Veterans Association. It was an amazing turnout considering how much was going on today and we even had two Cal student veterans attend for support. Thank you so much to everyone involved and I can’t wait to plan a bigger event in the future! Special thanks to ICC and the student activities services for all the help!
