Kevin Powell Inspires Thought-Provoking Dialog About Equality

An afternoon talk with Kevin Powell on the subject of equality turned into an inspirational, thought-provoking discussion among Merritt and community members of all ages and all races. Later that day Art Department Co-Chair Sheila Metcalf-Tobin  sent an email to the President’s Office, which read: “Thank you for bringing Kevin Powell to Merritt to speak with students, staff and faculty today. I thought the interactive dialogue was profound. I was really excited by a story one of the participants shared about the community meetings that used to happen regularly on the campus during the time of the Black Panther Party.  I would love to hear more about these meetings and work collaboratively to bring them back to the campus.”
