Contra Costa County’s Department of Child Support Services is seeking talented and motivated individuals to fill full-time Child Support Specialist I positions located in Martinez, CA. These are full-time positions located in Martinez, California. Child Support Specialists receive on-the-job training to learn the proper techniques and processes employed in child support collection activities including: interviewing, locating absent parents, establishment of support based on ability to pay, enforcement of support orders, collections of support, and monitoring of support accounts. Incumbents in this classification also deal with custodial and non-custodial parents by telephone, correspondence or in person on matters related to their support cases, and maintain financial and other data records.
Qualified persons who speak English/Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply. In addition to the monthly salary, bilingual employees who pass the language proficiency exam will receive a monthly bilingual pay differential.
Promotional Opportunities: Child Support Specialist I may be reassigned after demonstrated proficiency to the class of Child Support Specialist II ($4,249.95 – $5,165.84).
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record demonstrating the following:
• Utilizing computer systems for research and documenting data
• Significant public contact experience including interviewing and collecting customer information
• Respond positively to the challenges of high volume work and changing priorities
• Characteristics of the ideal candidate:
• Great interpersonal skills and is customer focused; Values collaboration and teamwork
• Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills; Possess strong organization skills
• Have relevant office/computer skills to use a variety of equipment and software
• Demonstrates a high level of ethical behavior
