What better way to actively learn about our East Bay neighboring environment than walking and talking with experts from our community? The Environmental Management and Technology program offers students a close-up way to get to know your natural community this fall through From Tree to Sea: A Bay Area Environmental Cross Section (ENVMT 40).

This is just one of several fascinating classes being taught in the Environmental Management program this fall. Others include Introduction to Sustainable Environmental Systems (ENVMT 2 and 2L) where students are joined by professionals in industry and government to discuss current thinking in how human economic, political and ethical behaviors are closely interwoven with the environment.

For students interested in self-sufficiency in urban life, Social Issues in Agriculture (ENVMT 3) engages class members through field visits to local urban and urban-edge gardens and farms. Visits bring discussions of food systems, labor, production issues and social justice to our front door.

And lastly, to show that there are green jobs in the making as these environmental issues come to light, a class in Environmental Careers (ENVMT 1) will highlight the current and future directions for environment-related jobs defining a clear process for students to move into these fields.
