First Annual Crime Scene Investigation Summer Camp for Oakland Unified School District high school students.

The team from Merritt College Administration of Justice and Bio Science Faculty, the California Highway Patrol (MAIT), Oakland Fire Department, and local law enforcement agencies, presents the First Annual Crime Scene Investigation Summer Camp for Oakland Unified School District high school students. The camp will take place at Merritt College in Oakland, CA. on June 20 through July 1 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. Registration is required for this camp. Limited space is available. Applications will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis.

With this course, the student will gain a broad in-depth introduction to the field of criminal investigation.  The student will learn the many steps of crime scene investigation from the first responders, the documentation of the crime scene, the photographing and measurement, and through testifying in court.  This course will also introduce the students to death investigation, and the many steps that are necessary in determining whether a death is accidental, or homicide.  At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to identify many of the processes that a law enforcement officer must complete in order to successfully investigate crimes, and the methodologies behind them.
