The Merritt College Classified Senate, as empowered by the Merritt College Classified Staff, shall enhance and utilize the education, training, and knowledge of its members in the shared governance process for the benefit of the Merritt College Classified Staff.

Through direct participation, our goal is to increase understanding and communication among all interrelated departments and work groups; improve staff morale by providing a forum for the voice of classified employees in the shared governance process; and ultimately raise the quality of services, thus improving the Merritt College students’ educational experience.

Community college, like any other institution or organization, is the sum total of its parts. We, the Classified Staff of Merritt College, do endorse and support our enlightened California State Legislature on its wisdom to mandate the shared governance model of the bill enacted by Assembly Bill 1725 (AB 1725).

As Classified Staff, we hereby empower as our governing body, the Merritt College Classified Senate (MCCS), which will, through its leadership and practices, develop unity and give voice to concerns to advance the fundamental founding principles of this organization. The MCCS will empower the Classified Staff to enhance and utilize the education, training, and knowledge of its members in decision-making arenas.
