Summer Cybersecurity

A Summer of Cybersecurity Programs and Other Activities Opens Opportunities for All Ages
With the growing need to learn more about cybersecurity for our general knowledge in world affairs as well as for future careers, Merritt College is offering the chance for students of all ages to learn more about the topic and about Merritt. On Saturday, April 22, from 9 to 12, Merritt is sponsoring “Recruitment Day,” to introduce the community to the following programs and be able to register on the spot.

The morning will begin with greetings and refreshments and will continue with an overview of the programs, a question-and-answer period, onsite registration for the summer camps and an orientation for the college’s Cybersecurity Program. The programs are as follows:

• Sankofa College Success Summer Institute, June 12-16, 9-2
This free one-week program is designed to provide incoming, freshman-level African-American students with a college orientation experience and the opportunity to get a head start on Summer 2017 and/or Fall 2017 classes at Merritt College. There will be tours, talks with currently enrolled students, and information about the Career Technical Education Programs, degree and transfer programs, student activities, and more.

  • CyberCamp, July 31-August 4, for middle to high school students, 9-3
This weeklong program features five days of no-cost introductory cybersecurity training. The instruction is led by Merritt faculty with the training modules developed by the CyberPatriot Program, conceived by the Air Force Association to inspire students toward careers in cybersecurity or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) disciplines. The program will end with a team competition and awards.
  • Merritt College Cybersecurity Program, August (Fall Semester)
These college courses in the two-year accredited Applications and Infrastructure Security Program lead to certificates or degrees in the software or hardware tracks. The program is taught by Merritt faculty and Silicon Valley security executives who are experts in their field.
