Merritt Community Learns Native American Traditions During Celebration

(SEE VIDEO) The Merritt community, made up of many ethnicities, all came together to enjoy drumming, song, dance, and food, and learn about Native American traditions, including a friendship dance to conclude the festivities (see below). This is the first time in many years that the Native American community has come  to the Merritt campus. The event was sponsored by ASMC and co-sponsored by Student Activities & Campus Life, and CalWorks. Maria Spencer and Dr. Lilia Chavez were the key coordinators of today’s event.  Collectively they brought the Native American and Indigenous Communities to Merritt College to honor our ancestors and celebrate students.
