Saturday, February 24th, Merritt College, in partnership with KBLX, hosted the 1st annual “Men of KBLX”, Men’s Empowerment Forum.

The MEN OF KBLX Tony Sco, Armand, Antoine Davis & 102.9 KBLX’s Program Director, Elroy Smith hosted Saturday’s “Men’s Empowerment Forum” covering issues such as:

•             Gang prevention

•             Building a positive relationship with law enforcement

•             Social media awareness

•             The value of education

•             Bullying

•             Men respecting the value of women

•             And other vital matters that are affecting our community

Panelists from faith-based, City and County departments, and corporate/business communities, along with Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, answered questions from the floor, and gave solutions to burning issues facing men of color in the Oakland, Bay Area region.

Over 100+ community members attended the event, held in the Newton/Seale Student Lounge.

Merritt College Student Services Outreach tabled, along with several vendors, who lined the Student Lounge with self-help programs, and career/employment recruiters were on site with job opportunities in the construction field, with salaries at $30.00 an hour, with benefits.
