Community Turns Out to Honor Merritt’s Twins in Blue, New Oakland Police Officers

Oakland Councilmembers, friends, faculty, staff, and students all turned out to honor Isaac and Isaiah Harris, Administration of Justice graduates, who were invited back to Merritt by their mentor Margaret Dixon to be honored for their new role as Oakland police officers. After many speeches about the newest officers and the community they will be serving, Isaac and Isaiah Harris gave a heartwarming talk about their journey to get where they were today and how happy they were to be serving the community together.  After the ceremony, a delicious cake was served with a photo of the twins on it and blue frosted lettering which read, “Congratulations Isaac and Isaiah Harris, Serving Our Community.”  Among the guests were Councilwoman Desley Brooks; Ray Leon, Policy Analyst for Oakland City Councilman Larry Reid; OPD Sergeant Mildred Oliver, and AJ Graduate Sergeant Jason Scott who works at BART, Merritt President Norma Ambriz-Galaviz, Vice President Wise Allen,  Director Romeo Garcia (who was the twins’ teacher when they were kids!), and supportive faculty, staff and students.
