Oct. 26: BPP Minister of Culture Emory Douglas Speaks on “Art as Social Justice to Move the People”

It’s the 50th anniversary of the Black Panther Party (BPP), and Merritt is holding a series of events to celebrate the memorable occasion. All events are free and open to the public. In addition to the events listed below, there will be an art exhibit by the BPP Minister of Culture, the Political Art of Emory Douglas from October 17-26 in S-352.

• Tues., Oct.18, 12:30-2 p.m., L-127 – The BSU is hosting a film showing and discussing the award-winning film, “Merritt College: Home of the Black Panther Party.”
• Wednesday, Oct. 19, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., R-110 – In honor of BPP members who were wrongly incarcerated as political prisoners: Albert Woodfox, Charlotte O’Neal, and Eddie Conway.
• Mon., Oct. 24, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., R-110 – Famed BPP leader Kathleen Cleaver speaking on “Engaging in Radical Change.”
• Wed., Oct. 26, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., S-352 – Emory Douglas speaking on “Art as Social Justice to Move the People.” Special guests: Members of the Polynesian Chapter of the BPP.
