(SEE ARTICLE HERE) AJ instructors Howard Jordan and Margaret Dixon, both former Oakland police officers, were interviewed by the Contra Costa Times about the new Law Enforcement Pre-Academy Program they created for Merritt College starting this fall (see article here). They will be joined by Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and other members of the media, and representatives from OPD and the Sheriff’s Office at a press conference about the program on Friday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. in the President’s Conference Room at Merritt College.

The program, the only one like it offered by a community college in northern California, was created to prepare students who wish to become police officers for the rigorous physical and academic requirements of the mandatory Police Academy as well as preparing them for the comprehensive certification test. Classes will be taught by Retired Oakland Chief of Police Howard Jordan with guest lecturers from the Oakland Police Department (OPD) and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

For more information about the program, contact Howard Jordan (hjordan@peralta.edu) or Margaret Dixon (mdixon@peralta.edu).
