Merritt Hosts Free Summer CyberCamp, 7/31-8/4, as Part of National Youth Cyber Education Program

Young adults who want to learn about cybersecurity and technology career options will have the opportunity during the Air Force Association’s (AFA) CyberCamp summer program hosted by Merritt College for the first time at no cost, middle and high school students will be able to participate in this introductory training camp at no cost to them.

CyberCamp was created to inspire students to pursue STEM-related activities outside of school. Merritt will host the program on Monday-Friday, July 31-August 4, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on the Merritt campus. The hands-on, five-day program will include snacks and lunch.

Instruction will be led by Merritt faculty with the training modules developed by the CyberPatriot Program. Participants will be taught about hacking prevention, cyber safety, cyber ethics and critical network security skills and tools. Campers to not need any experience in cybersecurity.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students who have an interest in computer science, technology, engineering and mathematics career fields to get a headstart in  gaining knowledge and experience for their future,” says Anita Black, Program Director for Merritt’s own two-year Cybersecurity Program which was created and is co-taught by Silicon Valley security experts. “We are excited to be offering this camp for the first time and hope to see some of the participants in our program in a few years.”
