March 5 – Let’s hear it for the Merritt College Lady T-Birds for their successful 2017-2018 season. The Lady T-Birds lost to Fresno City College last Saturday night ending a 13 game winning streak. The Lady T-Birds finished the season with a conference record of 14 wins and 2 losses and an overall record of 20 wins and 8 losses. Five sophomores will be leaving us this spring and 4 of the five are being heavily recruited by several Universities. In spite of loosing 5 sophomores the future looks bright as the Lady T- Birds return eight players from this years Bay Valley Conference Championship team. I would like to thank Merritt College President Dr. Burns, Merritt College Administration, faculty and staff for all of your support throughout the season. Our success was a group effort. Feb. 22 – I would like to thank everyone who came out last night and supported the Lady T-Birds as we defeated Los Medanos College 66-49. The Lady T-Birds were led by All Conference “Super Sophomores” Nyela Cade, Kalea Pickeral-Dennis, and Janette Davis. Nyela Cade led the charge with 27 points 7 rebounds and 4 assists while Kalea Pickeral-Dennis added a solid double double scoring 16 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Davis was huge defensively frustrating the Mustangs guards and holding their best player who was voted league MVP to 14 points. The Lady T-Birds go on the road to face Fresno City College this Saturday at 5:30 pm. One Vision, One Mind, One Grind. Go Lady T-Birds!!!!

Feb. 16 – The Merritt College Women’s Basketball team is officially the 2017-2018 Bay Valley Conference Champions. This is the first non-shared conference championship in 22 years. Sophomores Nyela Cade, Jannette Davis, and Kalea Pickeral-Dennis were voted to the Bay Valley All Conference Team. Additionally, my Coaching Staff and Players helped me achieve the Bay Valley Conference 2017-2018 “Coach of The Year Award. We invite all students, faculty, and staff to come out and support your Lady T-Birds as we host Los Medanos College in the first round of the Playoffs this Wednesday, Feb. 21,  in the Thunder Dome at 7pm. One Vision, One Mind, One Grind. Go Lady T-Birds!!!!

Feb. 9 – Lady T-Birds beat Solano College 64-40 and remain in first place.

Feb. 7 – The Lady T- Birds claim sole possession of first place after squeaking out an 80-79 overtime victory against Los Medanos College tonight. Freshman Guard/forward Ayreauna Williams knocked down two clutch free-throws with 2.6 seconds to close out the game. Williams finished the night with 12 points and 4 rebounds. The Lady T-Birds were led by “Super Sophomore “Nyela Cade who scored 28 points and snatched 8 rebounds. Freshman forward/center Erione Abraham also chipped in with 12 points and 8 rebounds. The Lady T-Birds face 10-3 Solano College tomorrow night in the Thunder Dome at 7:30 pm following the Men’s 5:30 pm game. One Vision, One Mind, One Grind!!!!! Go Lady T-Birds!!!!!!

Jan. 24 – The Lady T- Birds remain in first place despite the inclement weather the Napa Valley College “Storm” brought to T-Bird land. The Lady T-Birds pulled out the victory 62-52 in spite of missing two injured players. Freshman forwards Dionni McCoy and Erione Abraham stepped up and led the charge. McCoy scored 16 points while Abraham added 10 points. The Lady T-Birds hit the sky next Wednesday and travels to Mendocino College. One Vision, One Mind, One Grind!!!!! Go Lady T-Birds!!!!!!

Jan. 19 – The Lady T- Birds knocked off College of Marin Friday night 67-62 in a barn burner!!!!!  Marin native Jaiana Harris willed the Lady T-Birds to victory as she poured in 18 points to go along with 4 assists and 4 steals. Alaysia Clemons continued her excellent play as she scored 11 points and played phenomenal defense on College of Marin’s best player. The Splash Sisters, (Harris and Clemons) combined for 21 points from the 3 point line. The Lady T-Birds remains in first place and battle Napa College this Wednesday in the Thunder Dome at 7:30pm following the 5:30pm Men’s game. Please come out and support your Mighty Lady T-Birds. Jan. 17 – The Lady T- Birds have claimed a piece of first place!!! On Wednesday night under the bright Thunder Dome lights the Lady T-Birds defeated Contra Costa College 78 – 42.  The Lady T-Birds were led by the Super Sophomore crew of Kalea Pickeral-Dennis, Alaysia Clemons and Jannette Davis. Dennis and Clemons led the charge with 15 points each while Davis added 13 points. The Mighty Lady T-Birds take on College of Marin tomorrow evening in a showdown for first place. One Vision, One Mind, One Grind!!!!! Go Lady T-Birds!!!!!!

Jan. 11 – The Lady T- Birds are back on a roll!!! On Thursday night, the Lady T-Birds fought back from an eight point deficit to defeat Solano College 52 – 46. The Lady T-Birds were led by Kalea Pickeral-Dennis who scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Jaiana Harris added 11 points 6 steals, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Mighty Lady T-Birds topped Thursday night’s victory with a convincing 70 -42 win over Yuba College. Sophomore Nyela Cade led the charge with 22 points while Kalea Pickeral-Dennis added 15 points. Freshman forward Dionni McCoy also pitched in with a solid performance posting a double, double scoring 13 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The Lady T-Birds pushes its conference record to 5-2 and overall record to 10-7.  The drama continues Wednesday evening as the Lady T-Birds gear up to face Contra Costa College in the Thunder Dome at 7:30 pm following the men’s 5:30 pm game. One Vision, One Mind, One Grind!!!!! Go Lady T-Birds!!!!!!

Jan. 9 – The Lady T-Birds ran out of gas as we were defeated by the Mustangs of Los Medanos College. The final score was 77-74. The Lady T-Birds fall to 3-2 in conference play and 8-7 overall.  Freshman guard Jaiana Harris led the Lady T-Birds with 16 points 3 rebounds and 4 assist.  Nyela Cade posted 15 points while Kalea Pickeral-Dennis added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Janette Davis contributed with 12 points as the mighty Lady T-Birds were temporarily grounded. The Grind continues tomorrow evening as the Lady T-Birds hit the sky and travel to Solano College who are currently tied for first place in the Bay Valley Conference. The match-up is scheduled for a 7:30 pm tip off following the men’s 5:30 pm game. Go Lady T-Birds!!!!!!

Jan. 6, 2018 – On Saturday, the Lady T-Birds defeated Laney College 69-54 at the Eagle’s Nest. The Lady T-Birds pushed its conference record to 3-1 and overall record to 8-6 and are currently tied for first place in the Bay Valley Conference. The Lady T-Birds were led by Sophomore guard/forward Nyela Cade. Her bird prints were all over the game as she scored a game high 16 points in addition to snatching 6 rebounds and dishing out 5 assist. Kalea Pickeral-Dennis known as our “KD” added 12 points 9 rebounds and 5 block shots. Freshman guard Jaiana Harris chipped in with 12 points 5 rebounds 3 assist 2 blocks and 2 steals. Please come out and support The Lady T-Birds tomorrow as we attempt to tame the Mustangs of Los Medanos College. The Mustangs come in with a record of 4-1 and a share of first place. The match-up is scheduled for a 7:30 pm tip off following the men’s 5:00 pm game. Let’s get the “Thunderdome” rocking, Go Lady T-Birds!!!!!!

Jan. 4, 2018 – The Lady T-Birds pushed their conference record to 2-1 and overall record to 7-6 as we defeated Mendocino College last night 75-51. The Lady T-Birds were led by Sophomore guard/forward Kalea Pickeral-Dennis who registered 17 points 12 rebounds and 7 block shots. Freshman guard /forward Ayreauna Williams chipped in with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady T-Birds take on first place Laney College Eagles tomorrow at 1pm in the Eagle’s Nest at Laney College. Please come out and support. Go Lady T-Birds!!!!!!

Dec. 17, 2017  The Lady T-Birds won the consolation championship at the College of San Mateo Tom Martinez Invitational. The Lady T-Birds lost their first game in a nail biter versus Delta College. The T-Birds were led by Sophomore guard Nyela Cade who scored 15 points while freshman guard Jaiana Harris chipped in with 14 points. On day 2 the T-Birds dominated Santa Monica Junior College with an impressive 73-55 victory. A host of T-Birds led the charge. Freshman guard Ayreauna Williams scored 12 points while Sophomore guard/forward Kalea Pickeral-Dennis and freshman guard Emony Hill added 11points. The consolation championship featured the Lady T-Birds versus Butte College. The Lady T-Birds jumped out to an 18-5 lead and never looked backed as they beat Butte College 77-50 to win the College of San Mateo Tom Martinez Invitational Consolation Championship. The Lady t-Birds were led by Division 1 prospect Sophomore guard/forward Kalea Pickeral-Dennis. Dennis paced the T-Birds with 17 points 10 rebounds and 4 block shots. Freshman guard Ayreauna Williams also chipped in with 14 points 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Sophomore guard/forward Kalea Pickeral-Dennis was named to the College of San Mateo Tom Martinez Invitational All- Tournament Team.

 December 9, 2017 – The Lady T-Birds finished 2ndplace at the Santa Rosa Junior College Caren Franci Invitational Tournament. The Lady T-Birds beat Skyline College of San Bruno on the first day. The T-Birds were led by Sophomore guard Alaysia Clemons who paced the T-Birds with 18 points and freshman guard Ayreauna Williams chipped in with 15 points. On day 2 the T-Birds knocked off the host team, Santa Rosa Junior College with a two-point victory. The T-Birds were led by Sophomore guard Nyela Cade who scored 24 points and freshman guard Jaiana Harris who scored 20 points. The T-Birds marched into Haehl Pavilion on Saturday December 9th to take on Tournament favorites, City College of San Francisco. The T-Birds ran out of bird fuel coming up short losing 72-56. The T-Birds were led by freshman Guards Jaiana Harris and Ayreauna Williams. Harris scored 13 points while Williams contributed with 11 points. Sophomore guards Alaysia Clemons and Nyela Cade pitched in scoring 11 points and 10 points.  Additionally, sophomore guards Alaysia Clemons and Nyela Cade were named to the All-Tournament team for their excellent play throughout the tournament.
