Steps to Getting Started

STEP 1

  • Apply for Admission online atwww.merritt.edu
  • Apply online for your GI Bill Benefitsat www.gibill.va.gov
  • Submit a Free Application for FederalStudent Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov

  • New Students must take theAssessment Test for English, Reading & Math.
  • Transfer Students must submit Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges.

STEP 2

  • Visit the Veterans’ Affairs Office (R-105J) to start your benefits & obtain the Information Checklist
  • Schedule an appointment with the Veterans Counselor for an Educational Plan (Ed-Plan).
  • Submit all documents requested on the Information Checklist tothe Merritt College Veterans’ Affairs Office.

STEP 3

  • Register for classes online throughyour Merritt Passport account on your appointment date.
  • Notify the Veterans’ Education Office once you have enrolled in classes in order to request certification of your classes.

 

PRIORITY REGISTRATION
Veteran Students who are members or former members of the United States Armed Forces are granted priority registration for enrollment for any academic term within two years of leaving active duty.
For priority registration approval, please submit your military ID, DD214, or N.O.B.E. (notice of Basic Eligibility) to the Veterans Office, located in R-105J.

  • Vocational Rehabilitation:  Chapter 31
  • Post 9/11 G.I. Bill:  Chapter 33
  • Dependent of Eligible Veteran:  Chapter 35
  • Selected Reserve:  Chapter 1606
  • Reserve Educational Assistance:  Chapter 1607

    • DD 214 Copy Member-4
    • Meet with the VA counselor for an Ed Plan or an evaluation.
    • Submit a signed copy of the VA Regulations.
    • Sealed, Official Transcripts (if you are a transfer student)
    • Either fill out the Department of Veteran’s affairs Online Application at www.gibill.VA.gov or print up the Ch 30 paper application and submit it in person.
  • Vocational Rehab: Ch 31
    • DD 214 Copy Member-4

  • Selected Reserve: Ch 1606

    • Sealed, Official Transcripts (if you are a transfer student)
    • Either fill out the Department of Veteran’s affairs Online Application at www.gibill.VA.gov or print up the Ch 1606 paper application and submit it in person.
  • Reserve Educational Assistance: Ch 1607

    • Meet with the VA counselor for an Ed Plan or an evaluation.

    • Sealed, Official Transcripts (if you are a transfer student)
    • Either fill out the Department of Veteran’s affairs Online Application at www.gibill.va.gov or print up the 1607 paper application and submit it in person.
