Steps to Getting Started

Step 1

If you have not already done so, apply for admission to Merritt College at www.merritt.edu.  Click the “Apply & Enroll” tab and follow the instructions.

Step 2

Call Merritt Counseling at (510) 436-2475, or drop by the office in R-109, and request a counseling appointment for an initial Student Education Plan (SEP.)  Make sure to tell the front desk that you’re in the Veterans Program. If you’ve gone to other colleges outside the Peralta system, please bring copies of your transcripts to this appointment. You’ll meet in R-109 with a General Counselor, who will help you develop an SEP and give you a signed copy.

Step 3

Take that signed SEP (and your transcripts, if any) across the hall to the Veterans Counseling Office in R-105 J. Our Veterans Peer Advisor, Ryan Beall, will walk you through the process of enrolling in classes. If you intend to use VA benefits to cover fees and expenses while you’re at Merritt, Ryan will also collect the documents needed for your VA file and will help you complete the VA paperwork so that you can get certified (and paid!)
