The Puente Program is a two-semester counseling and writing program with a focus on Mexican American/Latino readings and a goal toward transferring to a four-year college or university. It is open to all students.
For almost 30 years the program has served to increase the number of educationally underserved students who transfer. Puente students are provided with accelerated English writing, instruction, sustained academic counseling, and mentoring form the professional community. Students must meet the following criteria to participate in the program.
- Be interested in transferring to a four-year college or university
- Be eligible for English 201A or 201B (determined by assessment or completion of pre-requisites).
- Make a commitment to work with the Puente Counselor.
- Make a commitment to work with their mentors as designated by the Puente Coordinator.
