e-Counseling

PLEASE NOTE:  e-COUNSELING IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE THROUGH THIS LINK.  INSTEAD, PLEASE VISIT <COUNSELING.MERRITT@PERALTA.EDU> FOR ONLINE COUNSELING SERVICES OR CALL THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT AT 510-436-2475 TO MAKE A COUNSELING APPOINTMENT.

e-Counseling services are for students who want to clear a prerequisite without having to see a counselor in person. To clear a prerequisite, you will need to provide all the following information for a counselor (no exceptions):

*Peralta Student ID or Social Security Number
*Unofficial or official transcripts from accredited institutions outside the Peralta District
*Course descriptions may be required for courses taken outside the Peralta District

e-Counseling services are also available for distance education and online students who live too far from campus to conveniently access counseling services and for students who have a disability or who have other compelling reasons for not being able to see a counselor in person.

e-Counseling services only offer basic educational counseling and advising. We do not provide evaluation of transcripts, development of Student Educational Plans (SEPs), clearing of holds for either academic or progress probation (or dismissal), or in- depth counseling and advising through e-Counseling. For those and other counseling/advising issues, please contact the Counseling Department at 510-436-2475, or come into the Counseling Center in the Student Center, R Building, Room R-109 to schedule an appointment.

The Counseling Center is open Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to Noon (Spring and Fall semesters only; hours may vary in the summer).

Because of the requirements of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Merritt College e-Counseling will only provide general information. And because of the high volume of e-Counseling requests, students should be prepared to wait up to three working days for a response.

To participate in the e-Counseling process, you must complete the following 3 steps:

  1. Read our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
  2. Certify that you have read our Confidentiality Agreement.
