Job Description
The Contra Costa County Public Works Department is seeking qualified individuals to fill multiple vacancies for the Engineering Technician– Entry Level positions located in Martinez, CA. Entry level Engineering Technicians may be assigned to the field and/or office job areas such as Surveying, Design and Construction, Traffic Engineering, Road Maintenance, Engineering Services, Transportation Planning, Road and Flood Control Design or Flood Control Planning. Typical tasks may include acting as a rodperson on a survey party, plotting topography and making simple maps, maintaining and placing traffic counters and conducting highway speed surveys, maintaining engineering records and documents, and learning to operate engineering, computer aided drafting, survey, and geographic information systems to collect and analyze data.
Characteristics of an Ideal Candidate:
• A desire to work collaboratively with the public, engineers, contractors, county departments and office staff
• Ability to apply mathematical concepts
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
• Innovative with strong practical problem-solving skills
• Organized and detail oriented; can prioritize and multitask simultaneous projects
• Can perform the physical requirements such as climbing, driving, standing, walking, lifting and carrying moderately heavy object in inclement weather and uneven terrain

Promotional Opportunities: Engineering Technician-Entry Level is a flexibly staffed classification and may advance to the next level of Engineering Technician-Journey Level (Monthly Salary Range: $5,182-$6,159) and Engineering Technician-Senior Level (Monthly Salary Range: $6,156-$7,500).
