Contra Costa County’s Public Works Department is seeking hard-working individuals to join their organizations maintenance crews; and we are currently accepting applications to fill current and future vacancies for Maintenance Worker I.

The Maintenance Worker I customarily perform a variety of manual tasks as a member of a maintenance or clean-up crew; and to do other work as required. They will be assigned to perform a variety of manual labor tasks in all weather conditions in connection with the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, buildings, flood control channels and other structures. Maintenance Worker I’s perform traffic control, move and transport materials and debris, dig holes, and level and sweep dirt. They also load and unload trucks, trim trees, cut brush, move and install timbers and boards. Maintenance Worker I’s are required to drive light trucks and operate a variety of hand powered and pneumatic tools. They are expected to follow safe working practices and procedures and to wear safety equipment as required.

Promotional opportunities may be available in the future to Maintenance Worker II ($3,981 – $4,839 monthly) and Maintenance Worker III ($4,683 – $5,693 monthly).

Maintenance Worker I’s are subject to passing a physical-fitness exam at the time of hire. Maintenance Workers at all levels are subject to drug and alcohol testing as required by law. All Maintenance Workers must be available to work a 4/10 work schedule, Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
