Job Description

Bargaining Unit: Local 856 – General Services & Maintenance Unit

Contra Costa County is recruiting to fill one (1) part time Driver Clerk opening available in the Library Department in Martinez, CA. Under general supervision, drives a motor vehicle and completes routine clerical and manual work required in providing messenger and delivery service between County offices and branches. Basic responsibility is the proper operation of a motor vehicle along an established route. Deliveries and stops are normally made in accordance with an established time schedule. Manual work is required in loading and unloading bulky packages of books and supplies throughout the day with up to 300 book bins per day weighing up to 50 lbs. each, push or pull 100 lbs. and maneuver hand truck or dollies or other appropriate devices for moving heavy objects 50 lbs. or over.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. proficiency, or high school equivalency certificate.

License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license as required to perform the essential job functions of the position. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process and/or possession of a valid State of California Class B Driver’s license when assigned to operate the Bookmobile, and

Experience: Six (6) months experience as an Bindery Worker or Storeroom Clerk in Contra Costa County, or

Experience: One (1) year of full time, or its equivalent, experience driving a vehicle for a professional service or agency or sorting, delivery and pick up of transmittal mail.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
• The California Motor Vehicle Code as it pertains to operation of a motor vehicle
SELECTION PROCESS

2. Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.
3. Written Examination: May include multiple-choice questions, which may consist of the following assessment categories: number checking ability, ability to follow directions, map reading ability, ability to control inventory, knowledge of stock work procedures, knowledge of delivery and driving procedures. (Weighted 100%)
4. Candidates must receive a score of at least 70, which may be an adjusted score, in order to be ranked on the employment list.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

CONVICTION HISTORY
After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
