Contra Costa County Public Works Department is accepting applications to fill an Airport Safety Officers IV vacancy for the Buchanan Airport (Airfield Operations).
The Airport Safety Officer IV, under general supervision, performs the full range of the daily airport operations, maintenance, security and safety work activities in a county airport. In addition, this class is responsible for organizing the daily work activities and providing lead direction to subordinates engaged in aircraft crash, fire suppression, rescue responses, inspection, maintenance, and aviation security of airport facilities; to provide training to subordinate staff; and to do related work as required. The Airport Safety Officer IV receives direction from the Assistant Director of Airports or Director of Airports.
The ideal candidate for the Airport Safety Officer IV will have a proven track record of:

TENTATIVE EXAM DATES
Tentative Oral Exam: January 15, 2019
License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.
Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency, or a high school proficiency certificate.
Certifications/Designations:
1) Must have Fire Fighter I/II and Fire Officer certifications, or be designated by the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) as an Airport Master Firefighter.
2) Must be designated by AAAE, as an Airport Certified Employee (ACE) in the area of Airport Operations.
3) Must maintain First Aid, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and AED (Automated External Defibrillator Certifications.
Experience: Four (4) years of full-time, or its equivalent experience, providing aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) responses, and airport operations at a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified airport, or at a United States military airport.
Substitution for experience: A two-year Associates of Arts (AA) Degree in Aviation or related area may be substituted for one of the required four years of experience. A four-year (BS/BA) Degree in Aviation or related field may be substituted for two years of the required four years of experience.
Special Training: Positions in this class are required to complete every year Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) training and pass a physical to use self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
