Job Description

Bargaining Unit: Local 21 – Non-Supervisory Management

Contra Costa County, Office of the Sheriff, Emergency Services Division seeks an individual who enjoys challenges in a fast-pace environment. The Emergency Planning Coordinator will assist in developing and maintaining countywide emergency preparedness response and recovery programs, coordinating with cities, special districts, non-profit organizations, and state and federal government agencies on issues related to emergency preparedness, community warning systems and public warning protocols. The incumbent will provide advice, specialized assistance, and coordination of training for county departments, cities, specialized teams, organizations, safety fairs, and the general public on emergency preparedness training; reviewing Federal financial assistance, including grant applications and recovery claims for county departments, and cities; and act as an Emergency Response Unit community liaison.

In the Office of Sheriff, the Emergency Planning Coordinator will serve as the primary contact for the Sheriff’s Dispatch 24 hour service unit.

Promotional Opportunities: Emergency Planning Coordinator may flexibly promote, after demonstrated proficiency and the required years of experience have been met, to Senior Emergency Planning Coordinator ($6,31 – $7,670)

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
• Knowledge of emergency management practices and guidelines such as FEMA, SEMS, NIMS, ICS, ESF, and State regulations
• Ability to manage projects independently
• Ability to write emergency plans for major disasters and/or emergency preparation
• Ability to Lead and conduct large-scale exercises and/or trainings
• Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration
• Ability to cope with varied and changing priorities
• Ability to take initiative with complete follow through
• Effective communication skills both in writing and orally
• Attention to detail and consistency
