Lady’s Are No. 1, On to Playoffs; Men Sweep Contra Costa

Congratulations to the Merritt College Women’s Basketball team who is officially the 2017-2018 Bay Valley Conference Champions. Announces Coach Armond Gray: “This is the first non shared conference championship in 22 years. Sophomores Nyela Cade, Jannette Davis, and Kalea Pickeral-Dennis were voted to the Bay Valley All Conference Team. Additionally, my Coaching Staff and Players helped me achieve the Bay Valley Conference 2017-2018 “Coach of The Year Award.”

Coach Gray invites students, faculty, and staff to come out and support the Lady T-Birds as they host Los Medanos College in the first round of the Playoffs this Wednesday in the Thunder Dome at 7pm. 
 

In Men’s Basketball, the Thunderbirds swept (2-0) the rival Contra Costa Comets this season, completing the season with a 76-65 victory. Freshman Isiah Davis was the leading scorer in the game with 21points and 8 rebounds, Freshman Deon Steward had a double double 16points and 10 rebounds, Sophomore Jahn Chensee had 15 points and sophomore Karim Helall chipped in 12 points. Isiah Davis was selected 1st team all Bay Valley conference and Deon Steward was selected to Bay Valley Conference Honorable mention. The Thunderbirds graduate 5 sophomores with multiple A.A. degrees this spring and return 5 freshman next season. Says Coach Keenan McMiller: “Thank you all who came and supported Merritt College Men’s Basketball this season. We look forward to having a state championship caliber team next year!”
