KBLX Hosts “Men’s Empowerment Forum;” Merritt President Interviewed

More than 100+ community members attended Saturday’s “Men’s Empowerment Forum” presented by The MEN OF KBLX Tony Sco, Armand, Antoine Davis & 102.9 KBLX’s Program Director Elroy Smith in the Student Lounge. Topics during the event included Gang prevention, Building a positive relationship with law enforcement, Social media awareness, the value of education, bullying, men respecting the value of women, and other matters affecting our community.

Panelists from faith-based, City and County departments, and corporate/business communities, along with Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, answered questions from the floor, and gave solutions to burning issues facing men of color in the Oakland, Bay Area region.

 

Merritt College Student Services Outreach tabled, along with several vendors, who lined the Student Lounge with self-help programs, and career/employment recruiters were on site with job opportunities in the construction field, with salaries at $30.00 an hour, with benefits.
