The Barbara Lee & Elihu Harris Lecture Series

The Barbara Lee and Elihu Harris Lecture Series was created by The MLK Freedom Center in  partnership with Merritt College to promote the vision, leadership, and accomplishments of Congresswoman Barbara Lee and former California State Assemblyman, Oakland Mayor, and Peralta Community College District Chancellor Elihu Harris. It offers an ample exchange of ideas to help inspire and move forward new leadership and servantship. The lectures have featured Civil Rights leaders who have worked closely with Dr. King, along with others like them who continue to work tirelessly for social justice.

Please watch this site for future events in the series. For more information, please contact the MLK Freedom Center at (510) 434-3988 or eric@mlkfreedomcenter.org.

Merritt College President Dr. Norma Ambriz-Galaviz  poses with Dolores Huerta after hearing the civil rights activist’s lecture, “Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community,” along with more than 400 others on November 15 at Mills College. The talk, which received a standing ovation, is part of Merritt College’s Barbara Lee and Elihu Harris Lecture Series. Senator Art Torres (retired) was also a featured speaker at the event. Their words of the struggles and successes during the height of the Civil Rights movements culminated with a renewed spirit to continue working in communities. The youth in the MLK Freedom Center (based at Merritt College) spoke eloquently of their commitment to freedom and justice.Click here for an article about the event featured in the Oakland Tribune.
