Dietary Manager
Dietary Manager (Dietetic Service Supervisor) |
Dietary Manager (Dietetic Service Supervisor)

Responsible for institutional food service (health care, educational, and penal system), a DIETARY MANAGER works with dietitians to provide quality food production, service, and nutritional care. The employment outlook is excellent. In the Bay Area opportunities outnumber qualified applicants. Graduates earn competitive salaries in hospitals, nursing facilities, residential care sites, schools, and commercial food service. Health care facilities are required by law to employ trained personnel such as a dietitian or DIETARY MANAGER (also called "Dietetic Service Supervisor" in California) in a supervisory position.
The graduate of Merritt's program qualifies to apply to the Association of Nutrition and Food Professionals to sit for an optional national certification exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, the graduate has earned the credentials, "Certified Dietary Manager, Certified Food Protection Professional (CDM, CFPP)."
The graduate who chooses not to challenge this exam, is entitled to use the designation "Dietetic Service Supervisor," as described in California state law, Title 22.
CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT
CERTIFICATION:
Program graduates earn a Peralta Community College District Certificate of Achievement that satisfies the state Dietetic Service Supervisor requirement in California. They are also qualified to take the national certification examination of the Dietary Managers Association, earning the title of "Certified Food Protection Professional, Certified Dietary Manager." Graduates are also qualified to enter the Associate Degree in Dietetic Technology Program when they are within 2 semesters of completing all degree requirements.
APPLICATION:
Merritt College enrollment is open to everyone. Preference in admission to the Dietary Manager Program will be given to those who have successfully completed, with a grade of "C" or better, all course requirements for the supervised practice component (NUTR 70A and NUTR 71A). Only one course (either NUTR 31 or NUTR 32) may be taken concurrently.
